friday finds 1.13.23

the power of the ocean on display in what turned out to be the calm before the storm.

—————————-

what a week, friends. the storms in california have been unreal, santa barbara has been smack in the thick of it, and we are buckling down for another wave of torrential rain this weekend. I also got a chance to travel up north to san francisco & sausalito for work and whenever I return I am filled with both nostalgia for my old home base and homesickness from my time away from santa barbara. I am looking forward to the three-day weekend and with the weather forecast it sounds like I’ll be spending most of it cozying up indoors and crossing fingers the worst is over weather-wise. happy friday, friends!

each friday, this space will be dedicated to five pieces I’m loving for the week across the worlds of home decor, lifestyle and wellness, with at least one (but hopefully at times all) featuring a local small business, artisan or maker I love. in an effort to keep these recommendations in line with my own efforts to stay authentic as a content creator and my greater efforts to be less wasteful as a human being, I will only recommend pieces that I own or have owned personally, focusing on brands whose sustainability practices and company ethos I can get behind. here are my finds for this week…

peg rack from sunhouse craft

beauty in utility is an area of home styling I have a lot of energy for. as someone who typically loathes the mundane, I love bringing a romanticism to functional items in the home. as storage solutions go, I’ve always been a fan of a good peg rail, and this organic version crafted from fallen branches is just so simple and beautiful. we love this in our entryway for coats and bags and hats.

stack mug in opaque white from heath ceramics

speaking of sausalito, my favorite ceramic maker in the world is headquartered there, and their signature handcrafted ceramic pieces deservedly have a cult following. once you spend any time at all in their beautiful sausalito showroom, you will leave inspired by the magic of their craft. one of my most-used pieces is their stack mug, a perfect little vessel for sipping tea or for my morning cold brew. the best part is they stack, so they have a minimal storage footprint on shelves or in cabinets.

coin clutch in shimmer stars from clare v. | locally made in los angeles

the difference between a bag interior that is functional and one that is a hot mess lies in the use of pouches; I’m certain of it. and clare v. makes the cutest pouches in fun colors and patterns, but I am partial to this shimmery star print. it’s the perfect size for cards, lip gloss, cash and any other small essentials.

eden carryall from parker clay | locally based in santa barbara | certified b-corp

parker clay is a santa barbara signature brand — beloved not only for its incredible buttery, sustainably sourced leather goods but for its inspiring company ethos of empowering women in ethiopia with employment, living wages, and the skills and means to uplift their communities. the eden carryall has become my go-to work tote, perfect for carrying a laptop and work essentials. I also love that it zips, and has comfy shoulder straps in addition to a crossbody strap.

vintage framed print of wintry mist from jess blazejewski (sold out - available paintings here)

when I am seeking a dreamy, original landscape painting, jess blazejewski is the first place I look. her art features serene countrysides and soft, moody seascapes. I’ve been lucky to collect a few of her pieces over the years and they add so much soul and beauty to a space.
